The Clinical Competency Examination assesses the clinical skills, communication, and professional behaviours expected of an entry-level chiropractor in Canada. It is completed in person using an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), where you’ll interact with standardized patients while demonstrating your ability to assess, communicate, and manage patient care.

Throughout the examination, you’ll interact with standardized patients while demonstrating the knowledge, clinical skills, communication, and professional behaviours expected of an entry-level chiropractor.
The Clinical Competency Examination is based on the CCEB competency framework. Understanding the competencies assessed can help you focus your preparation and better understand the clinical skills, communication, and professional behaviours expected during the examination.
The examination assesses four competency domains:
Apply chiropractic knowledge and clinical expertise to assess, diagnose, manage, and monitor patient care.
Build effective relationships and communicate clearly with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
Work effectively with patients and healthcare professionals to support coordinated care.
Demonstrate professionalism, ethical practice, accountability, and patient-centred care.
On examination day, you’ll complete the registration process before receiving instructions about the examination procedures.
Throughout the examination, you’ll move through each clinical station as directed. Trained examiners observe and score your performance using standardized scoring criteria, while standardized patients participate in realistic patient care scenarios.
